What is X-IMail-SPAM-Connection?

Our mail server software now includes a more robust Anti-Spam component. The software subscribes to several reputable "blacklists" to block email from known spammers. It also uses several rules to determine "suspect" SPAM and marks those emails with the string "SPAM:". As a result, you may also see some legitimate email marked as SPAM. In order to determine the reason why a specific email is flagged as SPAM, please use Outlook to view the email and click on the View->Options menu item in Outlook when you are reading the email in question. Look through the box that says "Internet Headers" and search for a line that starts with the string "X-IMAIL-SPAM-".

Here is a list of the most common SPAM headers:

  • X-IMAIL-SPAM-DNSBL
Filters mail servers that have been black listed by the SPAM fighting community
  •  X-IMAIL-SPAM-URL-DBL
Filters messages that contain at least 1 of the URL's in the URL Blacklist.
  • X-IMAIL-SPAM-PHRASE
Filters messages that contain at least 1 complete phrase in the Phrase Blacklist.
  • X-IMAIL-SPAM-STATISTICS
Filters messages containing a medium-to-high probability of SPAM content.
  • X-IMAIL-SPAM-VALFROM
Filters messages where the FROM address is not valid.
  • X-IMAIL-SPAM-VALHELO
Filters email messages coming from a mail server that has not identified itself properly
  • X-IMAIL-SPAM-HTML-FEATURES
Filters messages that contain unusual HTML code which is often found in SPAM
